Professional Certificate in CIO Practice: Africa Programme 2017

Wits University has offered the CIO Programme since 2005. From 2017, the University will offer three streams aimed at different levels of participants coming from the IT environment. These Programmes are:

 

Level 1: IT Business Partner [NQF Level 6]

This is an eight module on-line programme for business in South Africa and across the continent (introductory level) and includes:

  • Introduction to the CIO landscape
  • Shifting from IT to Business Technology (BT)
  • Basics of managing the IT organisation
  • IT benefit realisation
  • Introduction to strategy and leadership

Participants will be new members of IT and CIO teams with 1- 4 years of experience in the relevant field. For entry to the programme, an undergraduate qualification is preferred but not required.

 

Level 2: CIO Professional Practice [NQF Level 7]

This is a two week residential programme presented at Wits and includes:

  • Management and governance of the IT organisation
  • Enterpise resource planning
  • Advancing IT benefit realisation
  • ICT strategy and leadership in the digital age
  • Capstone case study group research and presentation

Participants should be experienced members of IT and CIO teams with at least 4 years work experience in the relevant field. For entry to the programme, an undergraduate or Honours level qualification is preferred.

 

Level 3: CIO Advanced Professional Practice [NQF Level 8]

This is a residential programme presented at Wits University in Johannesburg with a research component and includes:

  • The CIO landscape - innovation and digital transformation
  • Model-driven performance improvement and IT business fundamentals (ITIL, COBIT, CMMI, Devops, other)
  • IT project management and Agile methodologies
  • Digital cities and associated Informatics
  • Digital marketing, Internet of Things, big data, analytics and other specialised options (MOOCs)
  • Cyber governance, cyber risk and cyber security
  • IT auditing and standards
  • Legal and regulatory environment
  • Advanced digital strategy and leadership

Participants should be experienced members of IT and CIO teams who have completed Level 2 above, have at least 5 years work experience, are seeking a foundation for possible future study at Masters level, or are in possession of a Masters level qualification and are seeking to progress in the management echelon. An Honours or equivalent level qualification is preferred.
